Avalanche warning issued for the Colorado mountains as heavy snow continues

VAIL, Colo. – An avalanche warning was issued for the Aspen, Vail and Summit County areas on Friday morning, as heavy snow continued to come down across the Colorado mountains.

The avalanche warning is in effect until 8 a.m. Sunday.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center warned of possible large, human-triggered avalanches above the treeline that could be deadly. The winter storm, fueled by a surge of moisture from the Pacific Ocean, dumped 10-12 inches across the mountains overnight, and more than two feet of snow was expected through the weekend.
